Okay so this week I had to carry my huge guitar case across campus for the first time since beginning lessons (usually my boyfriend drops me off at the door) and boy that's enough to make me want to quit. The wind was blowing so hard the case was basically blowing me all over the side walk in a ridiculous staggering pattern of spins and swirls. Well maybe I'm exaggerating it was not quite that bad.
Once I entered class and allowed my fingers to regain circulation from my adventure in the cold I began to tune my guitar. After several frustrating minutes I think the instructor could tell I was not pleased, so I hung my head down and went to the front to ask for help, silly me I was trying to tune the wrong string the whole time ...oops!
From here we began our normal speed exercises and review of each song we learned in the previous sessions. I'm definitely improving from week to week but not at near fast enough level. I can still not do the last step in the speed exercises. But I'm finally off work tonight, so as soon as I press submit on this article the guitar will be singing throughout the rest of the night.
Despite the fact that the majority of the class is still struggling on the previous chords we learned we decided to throw two more in this week as usual. This I'm starting to see is a sink or swim kinda class, and I'm just hanging on to a floaty hoping it doesn't pop. This week we decided to do the two most simple chords supposedly, Am and Em. They actually really are the most simple ones we have learned thus far at least. From here we played a little song called The Cuckoo as well as the beginning of Sinner Man.
As I said before one hour for a guitar lesson is just simply not enough, it flies by so fast. From here we returned to a review of each chord trying to play as fast as we can through the changes of each. My speed is lacking but not to far behind most of the class. Looking ahead in the book I see there is only 2 more chords to learn and than its time to get down to business, so I'm thinking maybe I should have all the chords mastered in the next 2 weeks. Now that my manager finally cut my hours at work, hopefully, this will be a realistic goal. So now that I've motivated myself with this entry, I'm off to blister up my delicate little fingers.
