Monday began my first bluegrass guitar lesson.  I walked into the class room with my head held high trying to appear as confident as possible.  Glancing around the room I saw that everyone around me was staring at their guitars with perplexed looks on their faces.  This helped in boosting my confidence because I took the initiative to begin learning a few basics before the first official day of class.

As our professor entered the room, everyone began to shuffle around to appear as though they had a clue what to do with this marvelous piece of equipment in our hands.  I sat up tall and proud in the first roll as he began to take attendance.  Not wasting any time we went straight into learning to tune our guitars, which is pretty simple unless done by the ear.  For our beginner class though we simply have a small device in which we pluck a string and it tells us if it is too high or too low.

In only an hour of class each week, I'm beginning to wonder how much we will actually be able to learn.  But anyway, back to the first lesson.  We ended the day with learning the finger positions for two chords, C and G.  Throughout the week, I have been practicing going back and forth from C to G, trying to play as fast as I can make my little fingers move.  Looking ahead in the song book, I see that we will be learning to play quite a few nursery rhymes and simple songs just using these two chords.

I am excited to go to my next lesson on Monday!  Hopefully I'm on track with the rest of my class.  Finding free time to practice is very hard with full time classes and full time work.  This is something I have wanted to do since my grandmother bought me my first guitar 10 years ago though, so something tells me I'll find the time somewhere.
