ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Everyone has his or her own taste when it comes to the listening of music. This is true for everyone because there is such a broad range of rhythms and melodies to choose from. According to the Associated Content, in a web article entitled Understanding the Genres of Music, written on June 12th of 2007 by Rob Church, there are 29 “said” main genres in music. These 29 “main” genres or styles do not include the fusions or the hybrids that have been created and added to this wide variety of musical sound.

So, I guess you’re asking yourself, why does this matter. Why does this person even care about the different genres of music? The reason is simple. I grew up listening to only Country music and Disney songs. When I say Country music, I mean both new and old Country. And when I say Disney songs, I mean all of those tunes we love to sing-a-long with on the movies and television shows. This was only because my parents listened to Country music and I was only allowed to watch Disney movies and The Disney Channel when I was younger. So when I progressed further in my education, you can bet that I attempted to break that mold.

The problem was that as soon as a found a style I liked, I stuck with it and didn’t branch out to anything different. So this is where this blog comes into play. Each week I’m going to listen to a different style of music. After that, I’ll be giving my own opinion of that style based upon the artist, song, and maybe the messages that the songs are sending as well.

To be honest this is really an experiment, an experiment that I’m testing upon myself, to see if I can break my Type A personality or/and crack the mold I have stayed in for so many years and fall in love with a different stroke of musical brilliance.

Like you, I'm also interested in other music forms. I love everything, but since I'm a music major, I tend to gravitate more toward classical. I'm really interested in what you're going to do with this blog. I'm especially interested in whether or not you're going to listen to some classical music (and if that's the case, I can give you some wonderful things to listen to).
